Apologetics 102: Special Topics

This course is meant to be a follow-up to the Apologetics 101 course, which we recommend that you complete before starting here. The first course provides a more general, positive case for Christianity, whereas this course looks at particular issues and worldviews that often come into conversations about apologetics. The final section of this course examines Dr. Craig’s debate with the late Christopher Hitchens on the existence of God in order to expose you to some real-world dialogue on these questions!

We think that these first two courses put together establish a nice broad foundation for the relevant issues you’ll need to understand in order to engage with others about your faith.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, you will be equipped to:

  • Explain why it matters that God exists for meaning, value, and purpose in our lives on earth.
  • Defend the discipline of apologetics from those who think it is ineffective or unbiblical.
  • Defend the reliability of the New Testament from common objections. (E.g., Aren’t There Inconsistencies in the Gospels? Weren’t the Authors Biased?)
  • Explain the gospel with theological clarity, and respond to critical objections. (E.g., “How Is It Just for God to Kill an Innocent Person for Other People’s Mistakes?”)
  • Expose a wide variety of inadequacies in the naturalistic worldview.
  • Effectively engage with a Muslim on the key questions that come between Islam and Christianity, such as the nature of Jesus and the Trinity.
