At this point in time, we’re still getting things set up, but all the basic functionality you might expect from a simple forum or discussion board should be in place. (Here, the discussion board is technically called a Group, but the words are interchangeable; just know I mean ‘discussion board’ or ‘forum’ when I say Group.)

Feel free to make new ‘discussions’ (threads), and reply to others.

The ‘Feed’ aspect of this board functions more like a mini-Twitter–you can ‘Like’ and comment on those posts, but the real discussion board function is in the ‘Discussion’ section (obviously). Also, any new discussion threads and replies will appear in the Feed so you can get a quick overview of what’s happened since you were last online.

    ___

This is the only ‘board’ available for the official Forum, but there are actually other boards available that are connected to topic-specific ‘Courses’ on this site. For instance, there is a discussion Group associated with the ‘Kalam 201’ course if you are interested in talking more specifically or more in depth about the Kalam Cosmological Argument. Of course, you can make a thread in this Group about the KCA if you wish, but you may have more luck with engagement on the specific topic when you post in the associated Group. (There will be more Groups added all the time as new courses are created.) Please note: you do NOT have to complete the course associated with a Group in order to interact there; you simply have to ‘enroll’ in the course and you’ll gain access (which is all free, of course).

For the time being, please try to keep discussion topics within the realm of theology and apologetics until we get an Off-topic board set up. POLITICAL POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL BE REMOVED UNTIL AN APPROPRIATE GROUP IS MADE FOR THAT CONTENT; thank you for understanding.

    RULES and DISCIPLINE

    Reporting, Suspension, and Blocking

    • To report content you feel breaks the rules below (or general social norms), click the three-dot menu on the right side of every post, reply, and on each member’s profile.
    • All three–posts, replies, and members’ profiles as a whole–can be reported.
    • Your report will be reviewed and necessary action taken at a moderator’s discretion.
    • If a violation is serious enough, or a pattern of behavior is evident over the course of several incidents (logs of all reports are kept for future review), a user’s profile will be suspended. They will not be able to access the Equip platform, and all of their content already on the site will be either removed or hidden (replaced with ‘Suspend Member’ labels).
    • Suspension lengths can vary from 1 week to permanent, at a moderator’s discretion, reasonably congruent to the violation.
    • Until we have a more rigorous disciplinary system arranged on this site, your posts and comments are subject to be removed at any time if a moderator feels they are not appropriate in some way, even if not reported.
    • A user may be blocked by any other user at any time if they do not wish to see content from them. (This can be accessed through the same three-dot menu.) Blocking a user only hides their content and profile from the user that did the blocking. All other users will be able to see and interact with that user as normal, and the blocked user will not be notified. (Moderators can see who has been blocked by whom, and when, however.)

    Rules

We don’t ask a lot; we just ask that everyone is treated respectfully.

Do we really need a list of rules for you to follow?

Ask yourself if you would say or do the things you’re doing on here in public or in a one-on-one, in-person conversation with someone else. (Hint: if the answer is no, don’t do it. If the answer is yes, but your posts are getting removed or your account is being banned for your behavior, perhaps it’s time to reassess your social norms!)

If you do need a list of some things to avoid here, fine:

    1. Do not post any material that is in violation of any International or United States Federal law.

      2. Do not post any material that is copyrighted unless you own the copyright, have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, or are not in violation of relevant fair use policies.

      3. Do not post any material that is sexually explicit/pornographic.

      4. Do not post any material that is intentionally misleading/false. (Disagreeing with something does not make it misleading šŸ˜)

      5. Do not post any material that is defamatory of community members, moderators, or any other person/s.

      6. Do not post any material that is hateful and/or bigoted towards community members, moderators, or any other person/s.

      7. Do not post any material that is threatening towards community members, moderators, or any other person.

      8. Do not post any material that is profane or uses inappropriate language. Inappropriate words in which some or all of the letters have been replaced by symbols (e.g. $#!& and ****), will be counted as profanity.

      9. Do not post any material that is rude, disrespectful, insulting, etc. Show common courtesy.

      10. Do not post any material that is invasive of a community memberā€™s, moderatorā€™s, or any other personā€™s privacy.

      11. Do not post any material that is advertising and/or soliciting in a ā€˜parentā€™ post. (e.g., personal blogs, video sharing website channels) Note: Community members may self-advertise to a certain extent in their responses to others, within reason. (If your only responses are ā€˜I have a video on that [link]ā€™, you will likely be contacted by a moderator. Donā€™t do that.)

      12. Do not post any material that is contributing to intentionally derailing a thread.

      13. Do not spam. (e.g., posting discussion topics or replies in rapid succession, or posting content clearly unrelated to the Group’s subject)

      14. Show due respect to the moderator team and follow their instructions when necessary–their word is law around these parts.

      15. If you are suspended or banned, understand that this decision is final. Sock puppet accounts created with the intentions of disputing a suspension decision will result in a ban.

    ______

Finally, and maybe most importantly, remember that you are responsible for how you respond to others. If someone breaks a rule towards you, you are responsible if you break a rule in kind. The moderation will always try to settle things fairly and deal with violations promptly and appropriately, but in the meantime you have to not give in to the urge to retaliate or take things into your own hands.

Additionally, we all are responsible for the community atmosphere and climate. There will inevitably be disagreeable people on here. Some people will not necessarily break the rules, but will be insufferable to interact with for one reason or another. Keep in mind: what you feed, grows. If you give attention (via replies and other interaction) to these kinds of people, they will get more attention from others and remain a problem (or become a larger problem). However, typically, if a problematic person is simply ignored, they will either go find somewhere else where people bite the bait, or change how they act to feel more socially accepted. What you don’t do is often just as effective in curbing trolls and bad actors as what you do.

Very disappointing that there is no active moderator of this forum. At least block nodity, seriously – my kids are sitting beside me in my office, looking at my laptop, thinking Im typing on a forum about religion, and then there are naked people showing up. SERIOUSLY !!!!
